AHOL – VOŠ  =  Post-Secondary Professional School

AHOL – VOŠ, o.p.s. – Post-Secondary Professional School – is a private school liable to  The Ministry of Education of the Czech Republic.  It was established as a non-profit public utility organization and it was registered on 1st August 1996. The name of the school is derived from an abbreviation combining initials of the founders‘ names of RNDr. Ivana Ašmerová and JUDr. Josef Holík.

 

The school is located in a beautiful and quiet area in Ostrava-Zábřeh in Petruškova street and is easily accessible by  the city transport. The school has 9 classrooms for teaching theoretical subjects and 2 computer classrooms which are equipped with the latest audio-visual aids. In one computer classroom there are 23 computers and and in the other room 17  computers, coloured printers, overhead projectors, slide projectors, flip charts and other top quality equipment e.g. interactive board. These classrooms are preferably used for teaching specialised subjects e.g. information technology, database systems, data networks, accounting, economics and banking.

 

Teaching courses include both  theoretical and practical part. Theoretical lectures are given by internal teachers and external lecturers from The Technical University – Mining College or University of Ostrava and specialists from the best known major Czech companies. The school also arranges  practical training according to the specialization of the study programme.

 

Specialised practical training is an important part of the educational programme offered by AHOL – VOŠ  school. During the training students become familiar with a real situation and current development of their branch of study. It also enables them to establish contacts with their potential future employers. Specialised practical training is secured, supervised and evaluated by professional specialists involved in educational programmes and tutors.   .

 

Study year at AHOL - VOŠ is organized similarly to university studies. Each study year is divided into two terms and each term consists of teaching period and an examination period. Winter term usually starts in the third week in September and finishes in January with exam period. Summer term starts in February and finishes in June. The students are evaluated on the basis of results within the examination period as well as continuously throughout the term.

 

Post-Secondary Professional School AHOL - VOŠ does not require any entrance examination.

 

Conditions of graduation:

Final examination called “ absolutorium “ consists of professional knowledge examination, defence of the final thesis and an examination in a foreign language. The graduate is awarded a certified diploma degree  Dis“ in relevant branch of study.

 

At present teaching is organised into 6 accredited study branches both in day study and in correspondence courses.

Application of Computer Technology

 

Time of study: day study  - 3 years, correspondence courses - 3.5 years

 

A graduate in the Application of Computer Technology branch of study is prepared to work in the middle and upper middle management positions of the companies requiring very good knowledge of information technology, economics, management and business psychology. He or she can also work in computer companies as a seller or a distributor, a service technician and a computer network administrator. His or her knowledge and practical skills can be compared with those of  university graduates.

A graduate in the Financial Consultancy branch of study is able to work as an financial consultant in both companies and bank institutions. He or she masters  necessary knowledge and skills connected with financial matters. He or she is ready to elaborate a financial analysis of a company, analyse development trends and suggest a suitable course of action in accordance with current development. A graduate is a flexible worker capable to work both independently and in a team.

A graduate in the Social Insurance Scheme is able to work as an consultant in all types of health insurance companies, social security offices and similar institutions. He or she understands essential tasks and aims of these institutions,  knows valid law regulations and conditions of their realisation. He or she is aware of importance of health and social security system and its role in national economy. He or she is familiar not only with diagnosis classification but also with current ecological problems and environmental trends. The graduate can speak fluent English or German in both everyday situations and specialised discussions using professional vocabulary.

A graduate in the Travel and Tourism branch of study is ready to work as a manager in all spheres of tourism. He or she is able to run all activities related to accommodation, catering, courier and transport services with the aim to meet customers’ demands and satisfy their needs. He or she speaks three foreign languages and is familiar with package tour details,  guide activities, information centres, travel agents’ and tour operators’ activities, airline companies, regional development authorities etc.

A graduate in the Finance, Accounting, Financial operations branch of study acquires knowledge, skills and abilities in the sphere of general economy and finance, trade, labour and civil law, accounting, corporate financial operations, financial management, tax system, price system, controlling and economic statistics.

 

He or she  is able to work in managerial and professional positions in the middle and upper middle posts of the small and medium companies. He or she masters necessary skills for the positions of a specialist in specialized economic sections of big enterprises. He / she can work as a private person or as an employee in both financial and insurance companies.

International Trade, Transportation, Forwarding

 

Time of study: day study - 3 years, correspondence courses – 3.5 years

 

A graduate in the International Trade, Transportation, Forwarding branch of study acquires knowledge, skills and abilities in public and corporate economics, marketing and strategy,  customs regulations and law, management, logistics, transportation, controlling and accounting.

 

He or she is ready to work in managerial and professional positions in logistics, customs administration, managing human resources, services and in both international and domestic transportation. 

 

Projects

  

Post– Secondary Professional School AHOL – VOŠ is very active in the sphere of various projects which in many ways complement professional education at our school. We are educational institution, that’s why our priority is focused on both theoretical and practical education of our students. We make use of money from European programmes Socrates, Leonardo da Vinci and European Social Fund.

Thanks to international cooperation our students could pass their professional practical training in Rostock and Berlin  in Germany, Greece and Cyprus. Opening a new study branch Travel and Tourism in 2001 enabled  to enlarge our contacts with schools specialised in travel and tourism, hotel industry and gastronomy. Nowadays we cooperate with school educational institutions in Germany, Austria, Poland, Italy and Croatia.

 

Our current projects include:

 

-         Counselling, educational and requalification centre  - education for unemployed people

-         Mobility (Leonardo da Vinci) – scholarship for our students in Germany

-         Care for Guests – (Socrates – Comenius I) – hotel industry and gastronomy in enlarged Europe

-         Centre for development of travel and tourism (Interreg IIIA) – development of tourism in Czech-Polish border region

-         Fictitious business in travel and tourism  - establishment of fictitious tour company
